For months?? Considering Philip and Nigel certainly know that there are
linux users on the mailing list I would have thought that if they couldn't
get it working then some questions would have appeared before now.

I wouldn't call a 250 page manual 'nothing'. It is far, far more than you
get with some software - 'free' or not.

Exim runs out of the box with RH linux - I know I use it at work and at home
(RH6.1 and 6.2). You don't need to use the rpms, and don't need to touch the
configure file to get it to work.

Yes, you need to edit the EDITME file, but I would suggest just getting it
running locally (does 'telnet 0 25' work?) and then worry about the dialup
and the rest. (As with most software, and especially that which I have
installation problems with, I read the FAQ, check the archives, and start
reading the manual if there is one and any other docs provided. The only
times this has not answered the problem has been with alpha software that
simply won't compile or work on my systems.)
