Very simply:

PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) was originally developed by Philip Zimmermann
and is now, to all intents and purposes, a commercial product.

GPG (or more properly GnuPG) is a free and open source replacement
for PGP - see http://www.gnupg.org/. It can be freely used, modified
and distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

In most cases a pair of keys will work with both.
