That would only work if you were using "@@lsearch*:/some/file" (as we do
on one system here), or "@@partial0-lsearch:/some/file", or anyway some
search operator that will look up "*" if all else fails. Don't forget to
put a ">*" item on the end of other entries in /some/file (or you can
duplicate the contents of the "*" entry there, of course). I have a
simple-minded Perl script that takes a list and builds a file suitable
for @@lsearch* -- let me know if you want a copy.

There are a few domains that actually use 8-digit local-parts for valid
accounts. I imagine they must be regretting that now.
