Hi David,

Exim is an SMTP server. Mail clients don’t use SMTP to download mail, they use SMTP to send mail. They use IMAP, or a Microsoft proprietary protocol, or POP3 to download mail.

It’s a very strange requirement, and I don’t know of any IMAP server which would limit the number of downloaded messages: they just do what the clients ask. BTW: displaying 3000 messages doesn’t imply downloading them. A good IMAP client will download only the headers (Outlook isn’t a good IMAP client). Mulberry hasn’t seen much development for a long while, but can be configured quite flexibly.
