           Summary: Proxy Protocol Support
           Product: Exim
           Version: N/A
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: medium
         Component: Delivery in general
        AssignedTo: nigel@???
        ReportedBy: exim-users@???
                CC: exim-dev@???

Please consider adding support for Proxy Protocol. Details of the protocol can
be found at the following two URLs:

http://haproxy.1wt.eu/download/1.5/doc/proxy-protocol.txt
http://blog.exceliance.fr/haproxy/proxy-protocol/

It should be possible to specify in the config file which hosts can be trusted
for Proxy Protocol support. E.g:

proxy_protocol_hosts = +somehostlist

I found one other person asking about this on the Exim users list back in
April: https://lists.exim.org/lurker/message/20130421.224420.5138fc89.en.html

One use case: You're using Amazon EC2 and wish to use their Elastic Load
Balancer in front of Exim. Without Proxy Protocol support, Exim would only see
the IP address of the ELB host, and not the actual connecting hosts IP.
