I am NOT an Exim expert by any means, but I wonder if that's a bit
severe, because some causes of bouncing are temporary (such as a full
mailbox).
However, assuming you are using version 4 (and I'd be surprised if
you're not) all you need to do is change one line in your exim.conf
timeout_frozen_after = 2d
to
timeout_frozen_after = 2h
