It is not that this is the wrong list to ask questions about Exim v3.x
or even earlier versions, it is just there are not very many people
here who still use and or remember enough about v3 to give much help.

Add to that, the confusion of using outdated versions of Exim when people
give you information that is for up to date versions of Exim.

There are very very major differences between Exim v3 and Exim v4.

However, you can still get to the online documentation for older versions
of Exim on the www.exim.org website.

Here is a link to the Version 3.30 documentation:
    http://www.exim.org/exim-html-3.30/doc/html/spec.html

And we are all very painfully aware of the 'Debian Excuse' for not
having an up-to-date version of Exim installed and running. This not
only hurts the Debian users IMO, but it also hurts this list as too many
of the Debian users take offense when they are told to upgrade to a
modern installation of Exim.

We on this list will help you when we can, but part of that help is
going to be informing you that your Exim version is way outdated, and
that you are going to need to prepend every help request with
"I am running Exim v3.whatever on Deabian"
so that we know ahead of time not to send you Exim v4 configuration
snipets.
