This is a workaround you have performed. You need to look into the problem
further. I once migrated from mbox (uw-imap) to Maildir (courier-imap)
but I never saw such a problem and did not even use a workaround. I am
running Exim4 now, but may I ask: Did you migrate some mails? How did
you migrate the mails from mbox to Maildir?
