Yes not a nice thought, but better than having the stuff come into the
networks I am directly responsible for and I have to clean up the mess
anyway. The net result will be the same either way - because the gateway
server (not under my management) is not smart - we will be sending bounces
etc. back and some may go to innocent third-parties.

I want to reject it up front, the fact that the gateway server has to then
clean up the mess is the problem of the people who should be making the
gateway smarter in the first place. Unfortunately that part of it is
"politics".
