I've had some fun with that as well (frozen bounces again, grrr :)

I guess its because of their server setup. The MX server seems to call
up the backend server after DATA, asking him if delivery with that
address and message size (!) is OK.

When an account is cancelled due to abuse, they seem to have a temporary
blacklist on the MX frontend servers themselves.
