[Exim] Version 4.02 and "The Book"

Greetings,

I am new to Exim and downloaded and installed what seemed to be the most
up-to-date version, namely 4.02.

I then went out and bought the The O'Reilly Exim Book.. However, I was a
bit surprised to find that the Minimal Useable Configuration File on
page 56-57 doesn't work (error = 'main option "end" unknown').

Then I realised that the book doesn't actually say anywhere what version
of Exim it refers to... Well, I eventually found on p517 a reference to
version 3.22...

So am I right in thinking that the book refers to 3.22+? I see that
upgrading to version 4.x "will require configuration files to be
rewritten" which explains my problem above...

My question is: Is the 3.22+ branch still being developed (i.e. is 4.02
etc. still in beta)? In other words, did I just blow 60 euros on an
out-of-date book?
