Hi Philip,

You really should check out cucipop if this causes you head-aches. It's
awfully written code, but we moved to cucipop from qpopper, servicing
80,000 mailbox customers, for the following reasons:

1) cucipop has options to purge mail "left on the server" after a
specified period of time.

2) cucipop has options to bugger X-UIDL. This means customers keep
dowloading the messages they've left. This means they either call us
and we explain, or they turn the stupid !$%@$% feature off.

3) cucipop doesn't use .username.pop files, which means it reduces disk
I/O enormously.

4) cucipop's source, while bozoic, certainly produces very tight code.
