I wish I could say that approach will work, but sometimes it can't.

An example that I've come across in real life:

Let's say that you're a supplier of goods that sell through a large
retailer such as Sears or Boots. If the buyers' mail system is broken, you
can politely ask them to be nice; but management does not allow for the
option of refusing their mail, and you have fairly little political sway
with them if they choose not to fix things. Even if there are hundreds of
us with such difficulty, a company that insists on suppliers to do it
"their way" sometimes leaves few options.

Acceptance accompanied by a warning reply seems a reasonable option; if
you have to accept their broken mail at least be an annoyance to them in
return. But, as I said, there are times when not accepting someone's mail
is not an option if the someone has control over your profit/paycheque.
