If running ./autogen.sh generates a complaint that your autoconf is too old,
you could try a simple edit to configure.ac. Find the line
AC_PREREQ([2.70])
around line 25 and change 2.70 to your autoconf version. It may be that it
doesn't actually need 2.70 which the autoupdate put there. It would actually be
very useful to know if it works with earlier versions.
