Subject: [exim-dev] [Bug 1784] exim fails to write PID file when alternative ports are specified

--- Comment #4 from Chris <developerchris@???> ---
Hmm ok I see my mistake. google returned a non current response when I searched
for the answer. I should have used exims internal doc search. The documentation
I read said the pid file was written in the format exim-daemon-port.pid. I
could not find this or any other exim related pid file.

Wouldnt it then make more sense that the pid file which is an important file to
many processes be written UNLESS you specifically ask for it not to be written
or written to another location.

Pid files can contain multiple space delimited pids, shouldn't the exim process
simply append the current pid to the existing pids?

That way the shutting down of the process would be handled more gracefully.

It will mean that the exim process should also have the responsibility of
removing its own pid from the file when it is shutting down.

On a side note I think it would be a good idea to create a robots.txt file that
excludes old documentation from googles results. That would limit the number of
silly mistakes from people like me.
