Philip should decide this.
The sad thing is that these compiler settings are responsible for the
performance as well. Without optimizations, the interpreter is slow, and users
blame PCRE instead of their compiler. This issue is a symptom for a deeper
problem, and hiding this symptom is not necessary a help. But I don't have any
strong objections, so if others prefers landing this patch, it is ok for me.
