There is no denying that you can pull this off with another delivery agent. (if you choose to do that) The point is to have Exim support compressed binary data when saving to maildir files directly. This requires that the pre-compressed sizes are used for quota computation and mail tags.

Perhaps a long term feature would be to support Zlib when writing message files out as the last step. (much like the way Dovecot does), but that would be a much more complex patch/feature with more moving parts. Maybe another day...
