Subject: [pcre-dev] PCRE related Chinese hostnames
Hi Philip (and other PCRE devs),

As the guy who gets webmaster@??? e-mails, I got an e-mail from a
Chinese domain name registrar informing me that a Chinese company is
applying to register the hostnames pcre.cn, pcre.org.cn, pcre.com.cn,
and pcre.net.cn.

I guess this Chinese registrar does a good-faith due diligence process
where they e-mail any the owners of existing hostnames to make sure this
isn't an international copyright or trademark, and also to try to
prevent phishing type attacks. It's not all altruistic; they also give
existing hostname holders first dibs at paying to register the Chinese
hostnames (at 48.80EUR/year).

Given that pcre.com is already owned by some random real estate agent on
the east coast, I'm guessing nobody on this list cares about this, but I
thought I'd let people know in case anybody feels like ponying up money
to protect the PCRE name in China. If I don't hear back in a couple
days, I'll e-mail the Chinese registrar back and tell them there is no
need to start an international incident over the matter. :)

Humbly,

Andrew
