On my small private server Exim delivers (appendfile transport) to
mailboxes in mailbox format (not maildir),
mailboxes can be accessed with openwebmail (openwebmail.org),
the same mailboxes can be accessed also
via POP3 (popa3d invoked from inetd)
and POP3S (stunnel invoked from inetd, connecting to localhost).
No IMAP.
Webmail is slow but doesn't consume expensive memory (VPS) when idle.
Primary access is via POP3 and POP3S, webmail is for emergencies.
