Ah, I see. Unfortunately the answer is still the same ... PCRE doesn't
support it. As you probably know from this list, we are starting to work
on 16-bit support, but that will mainly be for UTF-16, not other forms
of multibyte encoding.

I agree (and I'm not particularly keen about UTF-16, though it is
clearly quite widely used).
