Subject: [pcre-dev] centos package, backwards compatibility
Hi,

Centos 5.6 ships with libpcre version 6.6. I need to install a package that requires at least 7.6. However, there are a quite a few installed packages that depend on libpcre, and I am reluctant to update with knowing for sure that the newer version (I would probably just use the latest) is fully backwards compatible. Alternatively, I would like to have both versions installed, if possible (maybe calling one of them libpcre8 or similar), but I'd prefer to not have to go through the process of creating a new rpm for this…

so my question is, can anyone confirm full backwards compatibility? If not, any other suggestions?

Thanks,
-Mike
