My stats show that at present 20% of mail gets delayed (due to
greylisting and other errors). I can only guess that with so many
simaltenous connections, this percent will be much higher. Also, I
wonder if with such a huge database of email addresses, you wouldn't
need to contact the big players beforehand and sign a deal with them
to allow more connections from you. I run some mailing lists and have
just checked that yahoo users make up 20% of all active users.
50K * 20% = 10K connections per second
This means that in any given minute of the mailing you would be trying
to open 600 000 connections with Yahoo mail servers. Now if that
doesn't get you blocked, I am not sure what will. This is just theory
but I really suspect this would be the case.
