That is what my worry is as well, actually.

Thank you! Now that I'm retired, the easier the maintance is, the
better. :-)

I'm working on other PCRE stuff (nothing major, minor issues) and sort
of aiming to get a new release out sometime before Christmas, but I'll
wait to see how your patch turns out.
