If exim uses the getgrnam() call, there is absolutely no way that it can
tell you that it was unable to read the group file. As stated, groups may
be in ldap, sql, or nis and not be directly accessible from the local
system. This is why /etc/nsswitch and the get{gr,pw}* exists.
