I don't find that to be true.

People will do what they need to do, but many don't percieve the need
and the rest don't understand it.

Well, true, but in terms of the stated goals and requirements that
started this thread all of those approaches also require direct
involvement of the end user. Think about it.

However all of those approaches are also the most difficult for the end
user to implement. (the end users don't usually manage their ow MTAs)

Therefore PGP, or something very much like it, (along with, perhaps, an
anonymizing remailer) is still the only viable solution that even begins
to meet the oritinal stated goals and requirements.
