In addition, it may be that two (or more) persons have the same
surname _and_ last name. In this case, a simple lsearch that
automagically extracts the uid from searching for firstname.lastname
in the gecos filed will only find the first matching entry...

When using a shell script to build the aliases file (or db), this
should also be considered.
Such a script could (for example) work as a wrapper for
useradd/adduser...
