[exim] Auth for smtp

I am trying to set up authentication for smtp, I have the following in
my configurtion:

MYSQL_Q_AUTHPWD1=SELECT crypt FROM MYSQL_UTABLE WHERE id='$1' and

But still someone can send email without authenticating
Can anyone see something with my conf?
