Subject: [exim] yet another "remote host address is the local host" problem
We recently tried duplicating an email system that was running on Exim
4.24, to a new server running Exim 4.31 (and yes there's a reason for
using 4.31, though we will update again soon).

We used the same exim.conf file on both.

Yet we can't send mail, using the linux mail command, to an address on
the same server:

<snip>
[jlasman@da5a etc]$ mail jeffda5a@???
Subject: this is a test
this is only a test of local delivery.
.
Cc:
[jlasman@da5a etc]$ ls -la /var/spool/mail/jeffda5a
-rw-rw---- 1 jeffda5a mail 0 Aug 31 18:59 /var/spool/mail/jeffda5a
[jlasman@da5a etc]$
<snip>

and here's the mainlog entry (beware the wrapping):

<snip>
2004-09-01 21:44:50 1C2jSs-00057I-K6 <= jlasman@???
U=jlasman P=local S=372 T="this is a test" from
<jlasman@???> for jeffda5a@???
2004-09-01 21:44:50 1C2jSs-00057I-K6 remote host address is the local
host: da5a.ns-one.net
2004-09-01 21:44:50 1C2jSs-00057I-K6 == jeffda5a@???
<jeffda5a@???> R=lookuphost defer (-1): remote host
address is the local host
2004-09-01 21:44:50 1C2jSs-00057I-K6 Frozen
</snip>

Yes, the domain is listed in local_domains.

And I have absolutely no idea what else to look for <frown>, and I've
got to get this server into service as soon as possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jeff
