I guess the only real benefit is the tarpit effect - while the spammer (or
the zombie, or whatever) is waiting for your delay (for however long he/it
does wait), that thread/process/zombie/whatever isn't moving on to the next
victim. How much real beneficial effect that has is debatable - while they
probably do wait during the transaction, I doubt they bother after they've
sent the final dot..
