Hi,

Our solution to this problem has been to use a combination of custom local_scan
functionality and wrappers around command-line virus scanners to enable them to
work over TCP/IP sockets.

This allows us to pass the bodies to separate backend content scanning hosts
and to thereby keep the load down on the incoming MX hosts. Spam Assassin's
spamd obviously doesn't require a wrapper, but the commercial antivirus scanner
we use does.

I think this functionality may already exist in exiscan, at least for spamd and
sophie. Unfortunately that didn't exist when we came up with our scheme.
