I doubt this would help (and i dont use cgi, but mod-php4). i just tried
this as root:

mail -s lala -a "From: info@???" mk11111@???

and got this as the result:

   mk11111@???
     unknown local-part "mk11111" in domain "xxxxxxxxx.de"
