[Exim] refused: too many connections

As of late, I have been getting these messages in my main.log

Connection from X.X.X.X refused: too many connections

I have search on this issue and some state to edit

smtp_accept_max
smtp_accept_max_per_connection

I know I will probably have to type this command into the configure file
under the main configuration section right??

If this lines are not in there. what is the default values and has anyone
have any luck increasing these.

I am running exim 4.14.


Any comments would be helpful
