Thanks (and to Suresh as well!)

This was the answer.

I had had to deal with msec in the past on something else but did not
think of it today since this had been working fine since last Spring
and the machine had not had any changes to it (in this area) so why
msec all of a sudden decided to do this I don't know. But modifying
the file above (in my case /usr/local/bin/exim-* since I build exim
from scratch and don't use rpms).

I normally am on FreeBSD but help support a customer's Mandrake machine.
