I've seen otherwise. Raptor firewall can detect the difference and has the
option to disable usage of telnetting to port 25. IIRC, telnet doesn't use
read/write to send data and has other tcp properties. I could be wrong, but
I tried it myself and telnet was refused where as an mta connection wasn't.
It didn't stop netcat though.
