It's a little hard to follow exactly what you mean, but am I right in
interpreting it as follows?

- you have a PC running Exim

- this PC does not have a hostname but does have a routeable IP address

- you are trying to send some mail, possibly from the same machine or
possibly from some other? Could you elaborate? What mail software?

It would also be helpful to know what version of Exim you are using. Also,
what is the host in question? I notice your mail came through
seberino.spawar.navy.mil [198.253.71.174] but that seems to have working
forward and reverse DNS.

If my conclusions are right (if not, please correct me and give more
detail), these notes might help point you in the right direction:

- first, check that you really don't have a hostname. If not, can you get
your network admin to set one up? That would be the best solution. Also,
if you're planning to receive *incoming* mail from the world direct to
this server, you're basically going to need a hostname, unless you're
going to be using IP-literals in your e-mail address, which I doubt and
wouldn't recommend.

- you can set the hostname for Exim using the primary_hostname config
option. This is often not necessary as if your system hostname is set,
Exim normally picks it up. However, don't invent a hostname. You could
contact your network admin, as above, or just be happy using your IP
address. Bear in mind that some recipients will reject mail from you
if your host doesn't have reverse DNS (is this perhaps the problem?)

- the From: line of e-mails is not set within Exim. Exim is not a mail
client, it is a mail transfer agent (MTA). There are various funky
things you can do within Exim configs, but I don't imagine that's going
to be relevant here.

If you can explain a bit more about the situation then I'm sure we can get
to the bottom of your problem.
