Yes.
Well, I have since upgraded, but I have been doing that with every version
of exim as it is released - without any problems.
The reason (I think) that no auto-reply is being generated is that the
"personal" condition is not being met, since it implies "$h_from does not
contain root@" (since you are running exim -bf as root, it has, I think
assumed root is the sender and the From: address. Try adding a From: line
into your test file. Or better still, save a real email and use that to
test it.
