Sam,

Pretty sad thing to say about the one company that has been most supportive of the open-source movement!

But whatever happens a commercial publisher must make a profit if he is to stay in business. As a small specialised publisher I know that only too well. A simple look will tell you that the best selling book on Qmail ranks 4990 at Amazon, on Sendmail the best seller ranks 16799 but the exim book ranks only 44573.

I use predominantly open source products, and I have twice as many O'Reilly books as all other publishers combined. But the marketplace is the marketplace and Tim O'Reilly has a business to run, not a not-for-profit.
