Yes, the tech at AOL is telling you crap. AOL accepts mail for hundreds of
domains. Take a look at the MX records for hbo.com and netscape.net. aol.ca
should probably look something like that.
When you say you spoke to a tech at AOL did you speak with someone at AOL's
postmaster group contact number/address (703 265 4670/postmaster@???
[IIRC]) or one of the first level tech support folks that help their end
users?
If it's the former, you should probably ask to speak with a manager since
they clearly shouldn't be handling email issues.
