I'm in the process of switching our main MTA from a Sun SPARC20 running Exim
3.32 on Solaris 2.6 to a Sun E150 running 3.32 under Solaris 7. Exim
compiled OK with gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 and the daemon starts up fine.
The NIC is 155Mbit/s Sun SBus ATM. After a varying amount of time, however,
the exim daemon dies with the following appearing in the panic log:
2001-11-13 16:04:46 socket bind() to port 25 for address (any IPv4) failed:
Permission denied: daemon abandoned
Also (though probably unrelated), even though the new system has the same
permissions set on /var/mail and the same /etc/passwd and /etc/group files
as the SPARC20, the following appears in panic log:
2001-11-13 16:00:04 163fyl-00009J-00 Unable to get root to set uid 60001 and
gid 60001 for local delivery to root: uid=7000 euid=7000
2001-11-13 16:00:04 163fyl-00009J-00 failed to read delivery status for
root@??? from delivery subprocess
2001-11-13 16:00:04 163fyl-00009J-00 appendfile transport process returned
non-zero status 0x0100: exit code 1
The config file is also the same on both systems (apart from
primary_hostname and local_domains which have been changed to cater for
different host names)
Any idea what's going on? As I say, exim delivers mail quite happily for a
while before tripping up like this.
