Or

hold_domains = re;^\d+.*\.com$

which doesn't reveal a particular implementation detail (ie. the regex
engine used). Or (maybe) better yet:

hold_domains = /^\d+.*\.com$/

-- if it works for sed, awk, and Perl, why not Exim too?
