I would venture to guess that the problem may be caused by
Mindspring/Earthlink themselves -- they have a policy of port 25 blocking.
Hence, any traffic going out port 25 of one of their dialups to anywhere but
their own mail server is blocked. You may *have* to use one of their smtp
relays...
