Hi,
The problem is, if you want to do hostname control, you have to make sure you
check hostnames period.
That is, it is not rDNS checking that controls the spam but instead closing
the loophole that would allow someone past your hostname checking by simply
presenting an IP that won't lookup.
I actually agree with you - I think this practice is an absolute pain in the
posterior. Make one mistake in your DNS and watch a lot of mail bounce - I
for one am not infallible ;-).
Also, there is the whole are of xDSL (where IPs are nearly always dynamic) to
consider in the future .....
