Memory, swop space or process table entries, I would guess.

Ouch. Unless Linux is _very_ different from FreeBSD I wouldn't run
with so little swop space; I would allocate at least 125% the size of
of the memory, preferably 200%.

Check things like vmstat to see what is going on, and look at the
total number of processes and how muc swop space is being used.
