That's not a forward file. That is an alias file. (A forward file just
contains a list of addresses.) There is no problem doing something like
this. I think there's even an example in the manual. Certainly in the
FAQ. You just need an aliasfile director with an appropriate "file"
setting such as

file = /etc/virtual/${domain}/aliases
