I took a look at Exim's FAQ (Q0022), went to the Exim specification (p.
248 f., 50.7 Database maintenance), went to /var/spool/exim/db and moved
the content of this directory to /tmp. Now this log line
> 2000-01-31 21:19:25 12FNID-0000FD-00 Failed to open wait-remote_smtp
> database: Invalid argument
has gone...
[root@ente db]# ll
total 8
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 4096 Jan 31 22:11 retry
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 0 Jan 31 22:11 retry.lockfile
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 4096 Jan 31 22:11 wait-remote_smtp
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 0 Jan 31 22:11
wait-remote_smtp.lockfile
[root@ente db]# ll /tmp/retry* /tmp/wait*
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 16384 Oct 27 10:18 /tmp/retry
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 0 Jun 14 1999
/tmp/retry.lockfile
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 16384 Jan 31 08:15
/tmp/wait-remote_smtp
-rw-r----- 1 mail mail 0 Jul 7 1999
/tmp/wait-remote_smtp.lockfile
Maybe the old (2.12) database format wasn't compatible to the new
format...
