As far as the AUTH stuff goes, this fixes one oversight (the variable
"host_authenticated" should have been "sender_host_authenticated" to
match other "sender_host_xxx" variables), and adds the ability to
preserve an "id" from the server authentication process for use later.
An unrelated bug and a buglet are also fixed.
