Here is my attempt to run test_dfnf

===================================================================
$ ./test_dbfn /usr/tmp

Exim's db functions tester: interface type is ndbm
DBM library: probably ndbm
USE_DB is not defined

Test the functions
> open junk

failed to open database lock file /usr/tmp/db/junk.lockfile: No such file
or directory
Failed to open junk: No such file or directory

This is OSF1/v4.0b

I have a /usr/local/lib/libdb.a which I suspect is Berkeley DB 1.85, but
and not sure. (Attached is the result of ar -tv /usr/local/lib/libdb.a)

A listing of /usr/lib/*db* gives me

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        18 Oct 15 06:57 libdb.a ->
../ccs/lib/libdb.a
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        19 Oct 15 06:56 libdbm.a ->
../ccs/lib/libdbm.a
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     system        19 Oct 15 06:57 libndb.a ->
../ccs/lib/libndb.a

which are whatever come with Digitial (Compaq) Unix.

I compiled with gcc 2.7.2.3
