Subject: [EXIM] Problems with sending mail
Hello. I apologize if this is a common question, or if I'm making a silly
mistake to cause this, but this problem has been frustrating me, and the
manuals have not shed any light on the situation.
First, a little about my setup. I'm running Debian 1.3 and Exim 1.81. The
configuration files have not been modified from the defaults written by
eximconfig, so the problem that I am having is probably the result of
that. :)
Anyhow, on to the point. :) I have noticed that Exim refuses to deliver
mail for me. Local mail is handled perfectly. However, for remote
messages, Exim reports that it can never connect to deliver the messages,
or that the connection is refused. The resulting message is thus frozen,
and undelivered. What frustrates me is, the logs seem to indicate that
Exim has located the host, even listing its IP. However, none of the three
messages which I had sent were delivered, thus I am led to believe that
the problem lies at my end. An excerpt of the logs follows. Note that one
email address is x'd out; I used the address for testing purposes and told
the person that I would not distribute the address. Anyhow, logs follow:

1997-12-26 22:01:49 End queue run: pid=9950

Can anyone offer me any advice? I used to use smail, and the system worked
perfectly. While Exim seems to be working excellently for local mail, I
can't seem to get it to deliver remotely.
Thank you, and happy holidays.
