That is a crash. Segmentation fault. The message in the next version of
Exim points out that it is in fact signal 11. It should not occur. What
version of Exim are you running?

That does what its name implies. It carries on in the face of syntax
errors. You are suffering from problems at delivery time, long after the
syntax checks.
