If the remote sites have DNS entries then they could also have MX records
which would replace the pathalias maps. This would have the added advantage
that all Internet sites would know the routing directly rather than having
to go through a site with a pathalias router. Exim would understand the MX
routing information and could deliver the mail accordingly.


So I guess we've reduced the "things that smail does and exim doesn't" to
just dealing with UUCP only sites without DNS records and handling
hosta!hostb!hostc!user type addressing.
